Groundbreaking Ceremony of Long Son Petrochemicals H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee congratulated Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, President and CEO of SCG at the groundbreaking ceremony.

On the morning of February 24th, 2018, SCG held the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Long Son Petrochemicals (LSP) complex in Long Son commune, Vung Tau city, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Attending the ceremony, there were Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; H.E. Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; H.E. Mr. Manopchai Vonghakdi, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam; Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, President and CEO of SCG; along with leaders of some ministries, sectors and localities of Vietnam, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN), and SCG.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that the LSP complex plays an important role in the development of the petrochemical industry in Vietnam, fulfilling with exports and domestic demand. The Prime Minister appreciated the determination of SCG and PVN to implement the complex; praised Ba Ria - Vung Tau for proactively helping investors solve the difficulties in the recent time; simultaneously, suggested investors to ensure progress timely and apply modern scientific and technological advances in the course of project implementation.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that the LSP complex has strategic significance in the socio-economic development of the country in general and Ba Ria Vung Tau province in particular. Once completed, the project will create a significant leverage for the development of the petrochemical industry, downstream industries, and other service sectors of the province and the southern key economic region. He noted that provincial leaders will support the investor to solve remaining problems and create favorable conditions in the production and business process in the locality.

Total investment for the project is about $ 5.4 billion USD. This is the first fully integrated petrochemical complex in Vietnam, marking a turning point on the route of creating a prosperous future, improving the life quality of Vietnamese people, and promoting the local industry through increasing the competitiveness of the supply chain of industrial products from the petrochemical industry.
