Media notice for the APEC Economic Leaders' Week 2017

Da Nang, Vietnam, November 2017 The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) and related meetings will be held from 06 – 11 November 2017 in Da Nang City, Vietnam. About 4000 foreign and local correspondents are expected to join and cover these important events. At this stage, media representatives are kindly advised of the following initial information in regard to the International Media Center as well as some other available arrangements, especially for media timely booking requirements.


The IMC for the AELW and related meetings is located at the center of the Da Nang City (address: No. 9, the Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, Da Nang), about 6 km from the Da Nang International Airport. The IMC (opening from 05-11 November 2017) accommodates and facilitates the media covering the AELW. Main components of the IMC include, among others, the followings:

+ The Reception Area/the Main Hall which includes: the Information/Booking Desk; the Press Kiosk; the Media Pool Waiting Room.
+ The International Broadcasting Center (IBC) which offers the Host Broadcaster/Photographer, Satellite Transmission Service, etc.
+ The Main Press Briefing Room cum as the Press Common Working Area, equipped with common work desks, convenient AC outlets audio feeds, computers with network printers; wifi & LAN internet connection with 5 Mbs speed; wide-screen LCD for live feed monitoring; photocopiers; stand-up positions. The Main Press Briefing Room can accommodate about 700 to 1000 correspondents.
+ One (01) Medium and one (01) Small Press Briefing Room (apart from the Main Press Briefing Room), which can accommodate about 200 and 100 correspondents respectively for economy members to use during the AELW. Reservation to use the Medium or Small Press Briefing Rooms must be made on the “first come, first served” basis.
+ Stand-up positions: available at various spots in and outside the IMC Main Hall with power line, signal cable. Reservation is required and charge to be applied.
+ The Dining Area (providing complimentary food services for accredited media during the Leaders’ Week).
+ Other facilities also available including Medical Room; Prayer Rooms; Post and Telecommunication, Money Exchange Counter, etc.
+ The Media Booths used as individual working space for media agencies as well as member economies: Each booth can be made of one (01) module or more, with each module is 09 square meters large (3m x 3m) and equipped with one (01) desk, two (02) chairs, one (01) telephone, two (02) 220V 10A circuits with high-speed internet connection (10 Mbs or higher speed, depending on request by media agencies). Media Booths are available for media agencies to rent on the “first come, first served” basis.

Urgent booking requirements NOW for media booth operation at IMC:

Due to limited space and for timely technical arrangements, media organizations wishing to rent their individual media booths are required to make their urgent booking as soon as possible, by filling the attached Individual Media Booth Order Form indicating clearly their individual booth requirements especially the total area (number of modules for their booth) as well as any technical requirements they may need such as power usage, specific HB feed, leased telephone line, satellite package, etc. The filled forms must be sent to the following contact no later than 25th August 2017 (the reservation closing date). Based on the media agencies’ requests as stated in their Individual Media Booth Order Form, the IMC coordinator will arrange the booths and make necessary technical preparation to meet requirements from the media on the “first come, first served” basis.

2.1. Media Registration
Foreign and local journalists who wish to cover the AELW are required to register online (by completing the Media Registration Form which will soon be made available).
Opening date: September 01st 2017
Closing date: October 25th 2017
*Registration after the closing date must be done in person at the IMC (on-site registration will be processed in person at the main entrance of the IMC outside the security clearance zone).
*Incomplete and inaccurate information in the registration may delay the approval process.

2.2. Accreditation
Press badge (Press ID) will be issued only to accredited members of the media and must be visibly worn at all time at the IMC and other meeting venues.
Pool pass: Due to limited space and for security reason, pool arrangements for each event will be applied and pool pass will be distributed accordingly to the Pool Press.
Please kindly note that security is expected to be tight with security scanning of both person and equipments at the IMC and meeting venues.

2.3 Other press activities:
In addition to the AELW coverage, media agencies can also carry out other press activities or site trips outside of Da Nang City. The additional press activities will be carried out under the guidance of Vietnamese press officers with interpreter(s) assigned by the Foreign Press Center, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam. For these additional activities, media agencies are advised to contact the the following focal point well in advance in order to make specific arrangements.

2.4 Host Broadcaster/Photographer:
Vietnam Television (VTV) is the host broadcaster of the AELW. VTV will provide live-feed of events from the meeting venues to the IMC, footage, editing, stand-up and other technical services. The rate card is to be informed

2.5. Satellite Transmission service:

2.6. Accommodation
About 20 hotels (03 – 04 stars) close to the IMC, located at the corner of Vo Nguyen Giap and Duong Dinh Nghe streets, have been designated for the media to rent. Media agencies should book reservations directly with the hotels (the List of Hotels for Media Agencies will be soon made available) as soon as they can as bookings are made on a first come first served basis.

2.7. Transportation and Vehicle Pass

Shuttle buses are available between the IMC and meeting venues (for Pool Press only), and between IMC and designated hotels (for all accredited media). Specific shuttle bus timetables will be available at the Information Desks of each designated hotel and the IMC.

Media agencies may rent car/mini-bus for their own travel arrangements by sending their requests to the IMC travel focal point (details will be made available soon).  

Only vehicles with vehicle pass are allowed to enter the IMC and related event venues.
