Subject:    ROP’S CEO AND DELEGATIONS VISIT VIETNAM, 16-24 NOV 2014                    

 

1.      Purpose.  To mobilize the support of Vietnam government and 6 province authorities to recognize ROP as a main NGO partner in demining and sustainable agriculture development in order to scale up the SHADE project from provincial level to national level

 

2.      Travelers.  Mrs. Heidi Kuhn – CEO/Founder; Mr. Frankie Frost; Ms. Lynn Knieriem; Ms. Constance Chatfield-Taylor - Donors

 

3.      Itinerary.  Location visited; Ha Noi, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue Province. 

 

4.      Dates of travel; 16 – 24 Nov 2014. 

 

5.      Key personnel contacted; Mr. Doan Mau Diep, Vice Minister of Ministry of Labour – Invalids – Social Affairs; Mr. Vu Xuan Hong (President Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations); Mr. Brett E. Hansen (Political Officer – Embassy of USA); Mr. Dinh Hoang Linh (FPC); Mr. Todd Hamner (Director – Office of Economic & Governance – USAID); Ms. Portia Stratton (Country Director of MAG Vietnam); Mr. Mai Thuc (Vice Chairman of Quang Tri PPC); Mr. Vo Van Hung (Vice chairman of Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province)

6.      Activities

·         Introduction of ROP and SHADE project in Vietnam,

·         Visiting partners in Hanoi,

·         TALK VIETNAM

·         Attending the key meeting with delegates of 2 ministries and 6 provinces organized by PACCOM,

·         Visiting project sites in Quang Tri, MAG demining fields, and Hamburger Hills in Thua Thien-Hue

 

Day 1st:  Sun, Nov 16th 2014: worked with VTV4 to prepare for the talk show on Talk Vietnam

Day 2nd: Mon, Nov 17th 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Doan Mau Diep; Vice Minister of MOLISA: both parties introduced about each other, MOLISA shared about the landmine victims and the supporting policies and commit to cooperation with ROP in activities in Vietnam, ROP shared the activities on over the world and in Vietnam and the fund raising events for Vietnam

 

      Day 2nd: Mon, Nov 17th 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Brett E. Hansen – Political Officer – Embassy of USA for sharing information, lesson learned and introducing the wine of Mr. Hoang Kieu (donor)

 

Day 3rd: Tue, Nov 18th 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hung - PACCOM to prepare for the meeting on next day, Nov 19th 2014

 

Day 3rd: Tue, Nov 18th 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Dinh Hoang Linh - Foreign Press Center.

FPC will support ROP in Press and Filming in Vietnam

Day 3rd: Tue, Nov 18th 2014: Had meeting with Ms. Portia Stratton – MAG Vietnam, the collaboration between ROP and MAG in demining and replanting

 

Day 3rd: Tue, Nov 18th 2014: Mrs. Heidi was invited to be the guest of Talk Vietnam of VTV4, through this talk show, Mrs. Heidi shared the ROP activities on over the world and in Vietnam, and told the stories of ROP beneficiaries who are landmine victim and Agent Orange

Day 3rd: Tue, Nov 18th 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Vu Xuan Hong, President of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; Mr. Hong confirmed that he will find time to join in the visits of the donors to Quang Tri next Apr and ready to support ROP to scale up to higher level

 

Day 4th:  Wed, Nov 19th 2014: Had meeting with representatives of MOLISA, MOFA and 06 Provinces: Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Thua Thien Hue

              Had meeting with Mr. Todd Hamner Director – Office of Economic & Governance – USAID (taking photo are forbidden)

             

 

Day 5th: Thu, Nov 20th 2014: With local authorities visited the pepper orchards and the Agent Orange victims in Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province

Day 5th: Thu, Nov 20th 2014: Visited beneficiaries in Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province, the pepper farmers

Day 6th: Fri, Nov 21st 2014: Had meeting with Mr. Mai Thuc – Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee, ROP activities in Quang Tri were shared and recognized by Mr. Mai Thuc and hope a long term cooperation between local authorities in Quang Tri and ROP

 

Day 6th: Fri, Nov 21st 2014: Visited the landmine survivor in Quang Tri Hospital, a 17 year-old boy who lost 1 hand and 1 eye 02 month ago

Day 6th: Fri, Nov 21st 2014: Visited the project sites of MAG in Trieu Phong District, Quang Tri Province, all ROP delegates walked on minefield with many bombs are found, this place will become the herb field when MAG finish their work.

Day 7th:  Sat, Nov 22nd 2014: Visited Mr. Thu, a landmine victim who lost his both hands

 

Day 7th:  Sat, Nov 22nd 2014: Mrs. Heidi received a merit for significant achievement in supporting sustainable agriculture development in Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province

Day 7th:  Sat, Nov 22nd 2014: joined in the graduation ceremony of farmers in Vinh Linh District, Quang Tri Province, this is one of the first farmers clubs of SHADE project in Quang Tri, the farmers truly appreciate the supporting of ROP to help them expand their pepper orchards and increase their income

 

Day 8th:  Sun, Nov 23rd 2014: Visited Van Kieu ethnic minority, the beneficiaries in Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province

Day 8th:  Sun, Nov 23rd 2014: Visited Hamburger Hill in A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province

 

Day 9th: Mon, Nov 24th 2014: Reviewed all trip before preparing for flight back to USA

 

7.      Conclusion.      

 

-          ROP and Delegations are all welcomed in every meetings and visits, the authorities in different levels strongly support ROP activities in Vietnam; ready for matching fund in kind or other ways, and also suggest that ROP should expand project sites to other Provinces (Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Thua Thien Hue) while continue to support Quang Tri, Quang Nam and Quang Binh Province

-          Local authorities and beneficiaries highly appreciate the supporting of Mrs. Heidi Kuhn, ROP, donors; and confirmed that through SHADE project, ROP help the farmers, particularly the marginalized farmers, develop the value chains of high value crops and help to increase their income to have a better life.  

-          For project expansion: Department of Foreign Affairs (DOFA) of 06 Provinces will support their Provincial People Committee (PPCs) send request letter to ROP

-          For operation license amendment of ROP: PACCOM will support ROP on administration work, after receiving the letters from PPCs

-          For fund raising events of ROP: Mr. Vu Xuan Hong agreed to support ROP to have the reference letter of the (Vice) President of the Socialist – Republic of Vietnam to emphasize the supporting of Vietnam to ROP activities. This will be the most powerful support to fund raising events of ROP.
