The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) organised a ceremony in Hanoi on May 23 to announce the UNESCO Global Report 2018.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vuong Duy Bien, said that the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions was adopted in 2005 in an effort to implement the commitment to promoting diversity which is included in the UNESCO Charter.

Vietnam officially ratified the Convention in 2007 and the Government of Vietnam assigned the MCST as the national coordinator of the Convention, he noted.

The Deputy Minister added that in its responsibility as a member state, Vietnam has completed the National Report for the 2012-2015 period on the implementation of the Convention in accordance with UNESCO regulations with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and the UNESCO Office in Hanoi.

The Global Report series has been designed to monitor the implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005).

The 2018 Global Report analyses the progress achieved in implementing the 2005 Convention since the first Global Report was published in 2015.
