Vietnam, Myanmar sanguine of growing ties Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (R) welcomes Myanmar President Win Myint.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Myanmar President Win Myint showed their elation at flourishing ties across a variety of fields, especially since bilateral ties were lifted to the level of comprehensive cooperative partnership in 2017.

At their meeting in Hanoi on May 11, both leaders hailed remarkable progress in defence and security cooperation, saying that aside from effectively carrying out reached agreements, the two sides will consider expanding cooperation to other potential areas, including navy, military medicine, defence industry, logistics, search and rescue, and fighting crimes related to national and regional security.

They also consented to accelerate negotiations for the early signing of a memorandum of understanding on mutual assistance in criminal matters in the time to come.

President Win Myint, currently on a visit to Vietnam for the UN Day of Vesak celebration, said said under the theme “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies”, this year’s celebration will help promote the core values of Buddhism to deal with huge challenges as a contribution to peace, cooperation and development.
