Vietnam always attaches importance to promoting its friendship and strategic partnership with Australia, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh said at a reception for visiting Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marise Payne in Hanoi on June 13.

Binh expressed his pleasure at the growing relations between Vietnam and Australia in various fields including politics, economy, defence-security, and education-training.

He thanked the Australian government for supporting Vietnam in the run for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.

The official highly appreciated Australia’s support of Vietnam’s role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and proposed that the two countries continue to coordinate closely at multilateral forums for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Southeast Asian region as well as in the East Sea.

For her part, Payne showed her delight at the strong development of Vietnam-Australia relations over the past time, especially the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

She hoped her ongoing visit to Vietnam and other high-level visits from Australia will help promote the bilateral strategic partnership in the future.

The FM affirmed that the new-term government of Australia will support the development of relations with Vietnam and wants to strengthen coordination with the Southeast Asian country for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

Earlier the same day, Payne had a meeting with Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang, during which she expressed her interest in collaborating to increase capacity of female leaders and affirmed that cooperation between the Vietnamese academy and the Australian government will bring practical benefits for both sides.
